The world of web design has moved on significantly since HTML first became popular in the early to mid-1980s. Gone are the days of static tables with images chopped to trick the browser into displaying a respectable web pages. Modern CSS stylesheets allow the font, size, color, background and positioning of each individual item on the page to be specified independently.

It is now possible to produce pages that are on a par with typeset magazine and newspaper layouts.
